The milestone#

AIM Austria just passed 1,000 LinkedIn followers.

We are a student-run non-profit. We have no marketing budget, no agency and no dedicated social media manager. The people who write our posts are the same people studying for medical and technical degrees. We started publishing seriously in February 2026.

Reaching a thousand followers in a few months would be a footnote for a company with an advertising budget. For us it is proof of something more useful: that a small, focused organisation with a clear message can build a real professional audience from scratch, without paying for a single impression.

€0 spent on advertising. 0 followers bought. 0 from sponsored content. Every one of our 1,000+ followers arrived organically.

By the numbers#

LinkedIn followers

1,010

Follower milestone reached

9 September 2026

Spent on advertising

€0

Followers from sponsored content

0

Followers bought

0

Unique visitors to our page

1,572

Total page views

3,074

Countries represented

30+

How we did it#

We are not going to pretend there was a secret growth hack. The mechanics were ordinary, and that is the point: they are available to any small organisation willing to do them consistently.

We published for a specific audience, not for everyone#

AIM Austria exists at one intersection: medicine meets IT and data science. Every post we write is aimed at that overlap. Medical students curious about technology, developers curious about clinical workflows, researchers working on both.

Posting for a narrow, well-defined audience is slower at the start than posting generic advice. It also means the people who do follow you are the right people.

We gave people a reason to act, not just to read#

Generic content gets read. News gets shared. The shift that mattered for us was moving from describing who we are to saying what is happening and why it matters to someone deciding whether to get involved: when the next intake opens, what a member actually does week to week, where the network is going next.

Concrete beats inspirational. If a post could have been written by any organisation in any industry, it probably will not travel.

We let our members do the talking#

A company page only reaches the people who already follow it. People reach their own networks. That is why our board and our members sharing, commenting and tagging matters more to us than anything we publish from the page itself.

For a small organisation, the most effective distribution channel is the personal credibility of the people already inside it. Treat that as an asset, not an afterthought.

We kept showing up#

Consistency is the least glamorous part of this, and probably the most important. We publish regularly, keep the same tone, and do not disappear for weeks at a time.

Nothing about this is clever, and that is exactly the point. The organisations that build an audience on LinkedIn are usually the ones that are simply still there when everyone else has stopped posting.

The audience we attracted#

This is the part we are genuinely proud of, because a follower count can be inflated and an audience cannot.

Who our followers are

Seniority

Followers

Experienced

287

Entry level

234

Director

96

Owner

55

Executive

49

Internship

45

Manager

44

VP

35

Partner

11

Two things stand out. Nearly a quarter of our followers are at director level or above: the decision-makers who could hire our members or partner with AIM Austria are already watching. And a large group are students and early-career people, which is equally important. Those are precisely the people AIM Austria exists to connect with opportunities.

Where our followers work (largest groups)

Industry

Followers

Higher education and universities

187

IT services and IT consulting

113

Research services

64

Hospitals and health care

64

Software development

54

Business consulting

31

Biotechnology research

30

Technology and internet

30

Nearly half of our followers work in higher education, IT services, research, hospitals or software. For an organisation whose entire purpose is connecting medicine with technology, that is exactly the audience we hoped to build. Instead of buying it, the platform found it for us.

Where our followers are

Location

Followers

Vienna, Austria

528

St. Pölten and surroundings

54

Linz-Wels-Steyr and surroundings

38

Munich metropolitan region

36

Graz and surroundings

30

Innsbruck and surroundings

20

Just over half our audience is in Vienna, where we operate. The rest reaches across Austria, into Germany and Switzerland, and, further than we expected, into more than 30 countries worldwide. Our content travels.

What this means for us#

AIM Austria's mission is to close the gap between clinical reality and digital innovation. That only works if the right people are in the room: medical students who understand code, technical talents who understand the patient journey, and the leaders who can give them somewhere to build.

A following of 1,000+ professionals at universities, hospitals, research institutes and health-tech companies across Europe is not a vanity metric for us. It is a distribution channel for our members, our events and our partners.

What is next#

We are not stopping at 1,000. The next milestones are already public, and an audience is what makes them possible:

Healthcare Hackathon, fall 2026. Our first major interdisciplinary event, and an official partner event of the European AI Innovation Month 2026.

Next intake, spring 2027. A further 50 members joining the network.

Every one of those needs people paying attention. That is the real reason this number matters to us.

FAQ#

How long did it take AIM Austria to reach 1,000 LinkedIn followers?#

We started publishing seriously in February 2026 and passed 1,000 followers in September 2026, so a few months of consistent, focused work. That entire growth happened without any advertising spend.

Did AIM Austria pay for followers or advertising?#

No. Zero euros, zero sponsored posts, zero followers purchased. Every one of our followers joined organically: through shares, reshares by our board and members, and people finding us through the networks of the people already involved with AIM Austria.

What kind of audience did AIM Austria build on LinkedIn?#

A relevant one. Nearly half our followers work in higher education, IT services, research services, hospitals or software development, the exact intersection of medicine and technology that AIM Austria operates in. Nearly a quarter are at director level or above, our audience spans more than 30 countries, and the majority are based in Austria and the wider DACH region.
